Located at 3301 Lake Cypress Rd in Kenansville, FL and less than a 45 min drive from Emerald Island Blvd. is a great experience for kids and adults to see and touch an alligator.

The Park is a walk-around and offers all kinds of gators including shows to hold and pass around a gator by a trained handler.  The kids will love seeing the many varieties that exist in Florida and throughout the world.

They also have Airboat rides through the Everglades and be prepared for a great day of fun and excitement.  They also offer a snack bar, souvenir shop, picnic tables, and a corn hole game to play while you wait for your turn for the rides or to enter the Park.

FUNNY AIRBOAT RIDE

tall reeds on funny airboat ride

Why not take out a day from the agitation of the  Parks and shopping and have a funny day with the beautiful Nature of the wildlife of Florida?

A great idea is spending some hours at Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures, Kissimmee, area of Florida Everglades. It is about 23 miles from the Resort and, even in your way, you will find a new vision of Orlando area with fewer constructions and shopping, but with a beautiful landscape.

Boggy Creek installations are at the side of Lake Tohopekaliga. They have different airboat tours like ½ hour or 1 hour, or at sunset and at night- you can make a reservation online and choose the time of the day that you prefer. And as their advertisement says: “idle along canals to find exotic birds, turtles and the Florida alligator wallowing in their natural environment. Then soar atop the swamp water at speeds reaching 45mph”. The ride is very beautiful and funny. Lovely birds around and a lot of gator. The airboat cross the water at speeds up to 45 mph while shooting between walls of tall grass.

After the ride enjoy the gator pond where you can see little gator. Also, there is a native American village where you will have the opportunity of seeing cover genuine artifacts and hand-made creations from the Native American culture.

Children will like to explore the fossil and gem mine that they have in the space.

And after all the amusement if you are hungry, they have a BBQ restaurant and a Tiki Bar.

That is a special time to spend a morning or afternoon during your vacations in the Orlando area.

Welcome to Celebration

Welcome to Celebration

When we visit our Villa on Emerald Island Resort, I always look forward to visiting the area of Celebration.  It is approximately 10 minutes’ drive from Emerald Island Resort, just off the 192. Celebration is a development created by the Walt Disney Company. It is quite close to Walt Disney World Resort itself.

It is a very peaceful quaint place, with business, shops and lots of lovely restaurants to go visit.  Some of our favorite restaurants are there including a Japanese place called Ari, a Thai place called Thai Thanni, a Columbian just called Columbia but our most favorite place to go visit is called Kilwins.  An ice cream parlor we go to every time we visit Celebration.

Kilwins have many flavors of ice cream, you can try before you buy, they have lots of different toppings available, we go and select what each of us fancy and sit down opposite on the rocking chairs facing the lake and watch the world and people go by.  There is nothing more relaxing than that.

On Sundays there is a farmers market.  An experience in itself.  You can walk around Celebration, there are parks and walking trails. Lots to see and do.

Celebration is a place not just for tourists people do live there too, it has a post office (actually the closet to Emerald Island Resort), schools, library, a hospital and a fire station.

If we ever win the lottery my husband and daughter would very much like to buy a house in Celebration and live there full time.

Visiting near to Halloween and or Christmas the locals decorate their houses and I have never seen anything like it.  Spectacular.

Celebration Home decorated for Christmas.

Wild Florida

Wild Florida
a family enjoying the airboat ride at Wild Florida

Wild Florida is a wild adventure park located in Kenansville, Florida.  Here you get to go on a airboat ride, get up close with gators and other animals in the Gator Park, and drive thru the Safari park.

The airboats are on Lake Cypress, which is considered the headwaters of the Florida Everglades.  We feel this is the best airboat ride in the area.  The pilots are knowledgeable and are willing to get up close to many gators and birds that make Florida wild.  The thrill of the ride winding thru the reeds of the lakes makes you feel like you are in the everglades.

The Gator Park is home to over 200 animals.  You can roam at your leisure thru the exhibits and attend any of educational talks about a variety of species.  The aviary is a fun place to get to know many of the exotic birds they have housed there. A petting zoo is great for little ones.  Be sure to check the schedule for encounters with the two-toed sloths, African crested porcupines, or the ring-tailed lemurs. Extra charges do apply for the encounters.

The Safari Park is a 2-mile ride thru an African like safari with over 100 animals roaming free.  Get to see them in their natural type habitats.

Be sure to stop by the Chomp House Grill and fill up on some fried Gator nuggets!!

Fun Spot, Fun Times

Fun Spot

If you are looking for an alternative to the big theme parks like Disney World or Universal Studios, look no further than Fun Spot amusement parks.  There are two Fun Spot locations.  The closest Fun Spot is in Kissimmee and the other location is in Orlando.  While both amusement parks are fun, we prefer going to the Fun Spot in Orlando.  It’s a little further drive but my kids like the rides at the Orlando location better.  Both parks have a variety of things to do each park has different rides so you could visit both and see which one you like the best.  Here’s a comparison of what to expect at each park:

Go-Karts

Both Fun Spot locations have go karts and they are a thrill to drive!  The Orlando location has four tracks and the Kissimmee location has two.  The main reason we prefer the Orlando location is because of the go kart tracks.  You have to be 54” tall to drive by yourself but they also have 2 seaters so smaller kids can ride with adults.  All the tracks are designed different and take up and down ramps and curves.  I don’t know the how fast the karts go but it’s exciting and you feel like a race-car driver!

Roller Coasters

I’m not really a fan of roller coasters but my kids love them.  Both locations have roller coasters for all ages.  At Fun Spot Orlando, they have three roller coasters.  There’s a wooden roller coaster and you must be 46” or taller to ride.  You must be 36” tall to ride the other 2 roller coasters.  The Kissimmee location also has three roller coasters.  They have a wooden roller coaster that for anyone at least 48”.  The height requirements for the other two roller coasters are 42” and 36”.

Fun Spot Sky Coasters

Both locations have rides that are called “sky coasters.”  These rides are not for the faint of heart!  The sky coaster in Kissimmee lifts the riders 300 feet in the air and at the Orlando location it’s 250 feet.  Up to three people can ride together and you must be at least 48” to ride.  Once you’re at the top they release you and it’s one gigantic swing.  After several swings back and forth they lower you to the ground.  I’ve never had the nerve the ride them but if you’re not afraid of heights I’m sure it’s a blast!

Fun Spot

Other Rides

There are quite a few other rides at each Fun Spot location.  Both parks have ferris wheels, bumper cars and merry-go-rounds.  Each park also has their own unique rides that are not at the other location.  Both Fun Spots have rides that are only for toddlers and little kids to ride.

Costs For Fun Spot

The admission price is the same at each park.  They have different packages but the most expensive package is $60, which is about half the price to get into Disney World or Universal Studios.  You can get the tickets cheaper if you purchase them online and you can save even more if you use Groupon.
